Tyler Hinshaw proudly serves as Director of Facilities for the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center (FPJDC).   His career began in Fall 2011, when Tyler joined the Center’s security teams working on the front-lines of Detention. He served as a Juvenile Detention staff providing direct-care to residents, implementing the behavior management program, and overseeing a robust schedule of daily activities. Tyler embraced his natural talent and passion for working with at-risk youth and in 2012 was honored as Employee of the Quarter. His success continued, and in 2013 he was promoted to serve as Assistant Shift Supervisor of his shift.

In this role, Hinshaw led a team of 18 Juvenile Detention Staff and worked closely with the Center’s leadership.  His talents helped the facility implement the recently legislated Louisiana Detention Standards. Tyler also led his team’s participation in the Performance-based Standards (PbS) performance improvement system.

Under his guidance, the Team received numerous inhouse awards for improving positive outcomes for detained youth.  â€‹

In June, 2016 Hinshaw again ascended the ranks of FPJDC and was appointed Director of Facilities. Today, he provides management for all aspects of the Center’s physical plant.  This includes leading Maintenance, Information Technology, Food Service, and Accounts Payable Divisions. He oversees the Center’s capital projects and directed multiple infrastructure upgrades, renovations, and expansions of the grounds. Tyler also leads the Detention Center’s emergency preparedness initiatives working closely with the Tangipahoa Parish Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to ensure the Center’s continuity of services and safety.

A life-long resident of Tangipahoa Parish, Mr. Hinshaw is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and the Leadership Tangipahoa Class of 2021. During his tenure he has completed the Dale Carnegie Course in Effective Communication and Human Relations and participated in numerous trainings, both statewide and nationally, ranging from early childhood development to human sex trafficking.

Although Tyler’s position and responsibilities within the agency have changed significantly during his career, his passion for helping at-risk youth has been unwavering. He still regularly interacts with the residents often participating in structured activities, providing mentorship, and inspiring positive change within them.
