Each year countless youth volunteer their free time to cultivate and harvest a large-scale vegetable garden on the grounds of FPJDC.
This ongoing project is part of a restorative justice approach intended to present these juveniles with an opportunity to symbolically repair the harm caused by their crimes and give back to the community. With supervision and guidance, the youth sow seeds, pull weeds, and finally gather an abundance of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and the like from this sizable corner of their temporary backyard.
All fresh produce is donated to the Tangi Food Pantry throughout the harvesting season. It is then distributed to families in need within the local community.
